What's One of the Best Ways to Ruin My Day? Aug. 11th, 2005 @ 11:14 pm
Problems with my computer.

More specifcally, I've got a disc read error affecting my Raptor drive. Fortunately my storage drive is safe (as far as I know) because if that went down, I'd very tempted just to break things and spend all day sleeping. Now, to decide to order from NewEgg or just go to Fry's and buy one. Decisious, decions.

Though this doesn't really matter to anyone save Jason, I'm going to reactivate my WoW account for a month. I'm interested in how the progression of the game is going first-hand. I don't think I'll become interested enough to play full-time again because the game still seems so...stagnant. When the game went gold and people started playing it in release, it certainly wasn't Beta but it certainly wasn't release ready. Now the influx of people (Blizzard is tossing around a number of 3.5 million concurrent suscribers world wide) is drumming up chaos in what used to be a quiet meadow. Now the game is so lost that it might as well be Beta again. At least, that's what I can gather from reading between the lines.

Besides that, it'll be nice to say hi to some of the people I knew in game. I wonder if they even stuck around to put up with Blizzard's bull-shit. Ah well, time to cut this short before it becomes a long rant on the mechanics of the game and how they're failing at it :(

P.S. I felt an odd urge to write/draw today. I'll have to do something to numb the feeling.

That Phone In War of The Worlds... Jul. 26th, 2005 @ 07:44 am
You know, the one that scientolgist asshole uses in the beginning? If you don't know what the hell I'm talking about because you didn't watch it, good. The film is horrid, outside of a Romero-esque moment when hordes of people are surrounding Cruise's car; just replace their lines with 'brains' and you've got yourself a Grade-A zombie moment.

Anyhow, quite sidetracked with that. The phone in question is the Motorola V3, or the Moto Raz3r. Besides being sleek and sexy, it's premium ($$$). Hopefully I won't have to buy another one for a few years like my last one because, otherwise, this might of been a tad too much. My number is still the same but I lost a few numbers in the process because I haven't saved numbers to my SIM in a while.

Beyond that, I had today off but they requested I show up today since the workload is going to be multiplied quite a bit due to a mix up last night. It wouldn't be too bad but I have this odd feeling that it'll turn into a 10 hour shift. Ah well, a paycheck is a paycheck.

I Have Time To Update :O Jul. 22nd, 2005 @ 07:08 am
So summer has broken down into a lovely repetitive cycle of near only working and sleeping. Work has also made my sleep erratic since I can never sleep right after work. I've now been staying up til noonish before I can finally fall asleep. As well, I compete with my brother for the computer, I've seen Shannon a great deal less than last summer and my friends are rarer than [witty analogy].

Beyond that, I'm poking around with Guild Wars to kill my time off from work, West and I are talking about playing CoH/CoV, and I picked up a few albums by Beans. I should really figure out my single large purchase for summer soon so I can properly save for it.

I <3 Platforms Jul. 1st, 2005 @ 07:34 am
When I'm in Sacramento, I tend to listen to NPR a god awful lot. This morning was no different; since they asked me to stay a tad bit longer than I expected, the noise streaming into my head did me a great service. Anyways, there was this segment that talked about the state budget of Minnesota and how it missed it today. That piece of information is kind of bland since our lovely Sunshine State had a hard time of ever doing that. What snagged my attention was that 9,000 state workers might end up losing their jobs (a large number are in health care) due to the budget crisis if it fails to be resolved in two weeks. The point I'm trying to guide you to is that the major obstacle in getting the budget resolved is the Governor of Minnesota refuses to have any kind of tax raise, despite a number of people chiming for an increase in income tax, becauase his platform was either based around or founded upon the idea of not raising taxes.

:D

I <3 stupid people.

I doubt any state has soooooo much pork barrelling going on that they can survive being in the red by cutting government spending only. I'm not saying you can't cut spending succesfully but, in this instance, the deficit seems to be of such a size that the governor will probably have to end up pulling a Bush senior maneuver and attempt to save as much face as possible.

Time for sleep before a trip to Reno now.

My apartment back in So. Cal is looking mighty nice right about now :(

Talk about embarassment.

Their first two albums, the Pre-Dookie ones, were relatively punk but all albums post-Dookie tripped into the seedy world of popular music. In Green Day's defense, I will say that they can engineer their unique sound quite well but it's far from what punk really is.
» Yes, I Know What Time It Is
So I'm laying in bed after having listened to the semi-drunken phone calls that Jason, Crystal and Dexter have left me, occasinaly tossing a glance over to the alarm clock behind me at the head of the bed. I have to turn a bit to see it but it's better than trying to wrestle with my increasingly aging cell phone that I have. Rather, my increasinly aging chunk of plastic that I attempt to pass of as a cell phone. Either way,it didn't change the fact that the clock was reading 5:15 in front of me and the rising sun announcing in another day was creeping up behind me. During the school year, being up this late signaled the end of another long late-night game binge but this summer, it's just a small item that comes up with my job.

Yes, job.

You can stop gasping now.

As cute or quirky as it is, I'm working a simple night stocking job so all those late nights I held at school are now helping me stay up these long hours. However, having a job doesn't explain as to why I'm posting on LiveJournal, a website I haven't frequented what-so-ever for the past few months. It's easiest to say that I couldn't sleep at all because while normally I'd sleep til noonish, job or not, I have a disgustingly early dentist appointment today that warrants my attendance for 'Suupa Happi Tiisu'.

Anyhow, besides the menial job, summer has been fair so far. Well, save the weather; this heat can "Chill Out" as I fondly remember the Govern-ator saying. So far, the only other major item is that my computer was slightly rebuilt. The last time I was working on it, something came off the motherboard and, while it was fine when left alone, moving it only served to rattle the rest of the items in the case. The only remedy was to unfortunately throw money at it and now I have a new (larger) case to show for it. It's a bit quieter too; instead of a jet taking off in my room, it's more like crickets chirping.

I passed on going to the Video Games Live concert due to having recently started working. I sincerely doubt I'll be able to get extended time off for a trip to So. Cal so early in summer but I can always start saving for another chance later on. I'd like to come back for a week or so but I can only play things by ear for now and see if things turn my way in the near future.

I miss doing stuff with my friends in So. Cal :(
» I KNEW IT!
I do like coding ><.

Rather, action scripting in Flash is challenging but is well worth seeing the window pop saying there are no syntax errors. Even more than gaming sometimes, oddly enough.

The gist of all this stuff is that I stayed up all night working on a flash assignment and, instead of sleeping right now, I'm going to get started on my last assignment. Flash is fun but hard to grasp right now, lol.

» Mandatory Update
It's been about a month since I last updated and since I'm back in Sacramento and not playing World of Warcraft, I should probably take the time to update. Since it'll be a while since I'll have a chance to lvl my characters again, I'll just say where I stand with the game at the moment.

Cenarius Server:

Kurohana - lvl 35 Human Female Priest Tailoring/Enchanting
Silhouette - lvl 18 Human Female Rogue Mining/Engineering
Hyacinth - lvl 13 Night Elf Female Druid Herbalism/Alchemy
Nakoruru - lvl 13 Night Elf Female Hunter Skinning/Leatherworking
Lighthammer - lvl 5 Human Female Paladin Mining/Smithing
Kurohoshi - lvl 3 Human Female Warlock Herbalism/Alchemy

It's more than likely that a lot of people will be passing my during this off time but that's ok. I just wanted to try and sample all of the different classes out there. I'd have to say that if you're looking for 'easy' soloing, try the hunter or the warlock. Pets help immensely if you're not fond of associating with the common riff-raff that is starting to more and more drip into the game. I believe they're also called B-Net kiddies but that's just something you'll have to find out for yourself. As for the most challenging solo class though, I can't really say. Because of the amount of time Blizzard put into balancing the classes and making sure each can solo well (unlike City of Heroes where the idea that each class can solo is actually bullshit), it really all boils down to personal style. For me, I'm in favor of either the priest or a engineering rogue. I don't think I can play a rogue any other way but that wouldn't make sense until you've tried it.

Anyhow, off of the WoW subject, Sacramento has been nice so far. After not seeing Shannon for so long, I think I started to forget how much fun it is to pick her up and swing her around a bit. I'm thinking this is going to be at least a nice break thanks to Shannon being around.

Squeeze the Shannon! XD

Latez til next entry then.
» Games Galore In The Month of November
Beginning as of Yesterday with Half-Life 2's release, the following week until next Tuesday is probably one of the most game crazy weeks I've seen in a while.

Half-Life 2
Metroid Prime 2: Echoes
Nintendo DS
Need for Speed Underground 2
World of Warcraft

Honestly, I think I'm forgetting some. As well, it's also worth noting that just last week, the bombshells that are Halo 2 and Everquest 2 were released. Why, gaming gods? Why must you make us suffer like children in a candy store but with only enough to buy a stick of gum? I really wish the whole Holiday-Season-Release mantra would end already because my pocketbook can't handle this ><.
» Shocking!
So, I'm sitting around and instead of sleeping, I do something unthinkable.

I tuned my guitar and spent the next hour or two playing around with tabs when I just said fuck it.

With all my half-assed skills, I need to learn how to walk before I can run again.

Rehabilitation blows but I'm sure it'll pay off.

It's still amusing to think that I used to think that sliding my fingers really hard on the guitar strings might cut them open. It doesn't do anything of the sort. Instead, I got thick callouses and dexterous hands. However, let's see how long this'll last again.

Sleep now since I feel like trying to wake up early.
» Open Beta for WoW
Click to find out when it starts.

That's all I feel like saying at the moment.

*Yawn*

----
Edit:

Open Beta started at 1:00 PM PST and promptly killed the WoW site. Open Beta keys were provided by FilePlanet who then ran out of Beta Keys somewhere between 2:30 and 3:00. Now, keys are being awarded by Blizzard which has once again essentially killed their site due to bandwidth. Here's hoping everyone who wants a key can get one.
» MMORPG ALERT!
If you're concerned about WoW, then keep this in mind.

It's got a street date.

It's hitting stores November 23rd, a Tuesday.

Expected length of Open Beta will be 2 weeks then. My guess is that it should start next Monday. Regardless, I never anticipated Blizzard to release it just yet. In fact, I just told Jason the other day that I wouldn't expect it til late, late 4th quarter/early first quarter.

This either means that VUG is putting the pinch on them or they really do feel good about this.

To note if you don't feel like clicking the link:

If you pay monthly, it's $14.99

If you pay every three months, it's $13.99 a month

If you pay every six months, it's $12.99 a month

SO COOL!
» Some Things I Need To Amass So I Can Draw
My god damn figurine I intended to use for modeling purposes! I was ready to bring the thing so I could have a reference for poses and angles and I forgot the stupid thing in Sacramento ><. If I had it, I wouldn't have to search the damn internet for various pictures of poses and I can just focus on practicing my already crappy drawings.

A scanner. 'Nuff Said.

Ok, now that drawing is out of my system for now, time to hit the sack.
